Forum posting is a free way to advertise yourself, your website or any affiliateprogram you are affiliated with.

As with all other things this is something you can do wrong.

A good idea would be to read posts before posting.
This will tell you how things are done and accepted.

Signature opens for almost anything.
Changing your signature will, in most forums, change your signature in all previous posts, which is great if you had a typo, want to track or have started promoting something completely new.

Introduce yourself.
Take some time and write an introduction of yourself, something you don't mind being read by thousands of people. Save it notepad or any texteditor and just copy/paste when you join a new forum.

Same should be done for ads of course.
You don't want to write everything from scratch every single time.
